Work on Milton Burn flood prevention scheme could be underway by November
11 AugustWork on the Milton Burn flood prevention scheme could finally be underway by November, after final plans were debated in a meeting of Bute and Cowal Area Committee.
Principal engineer Arthur McCulloch told Councillors that work can begin as soon as Morrisons Supermarket give the go-ahead for their John Street car park to be used by builders to access what will become the enclosed section of the project.
So far this has not been finalised, but if a fairly complicated set of conditions - detailed in the Dunoon Observer's report - are met, work could be put out to tender on August 15, with contacts awarded in early October, before building work starts on November 1.
Originally announced last summer and pencilled for completion earlier this year, the much-delayed project involves building a series of new retaining walls to stretches of the burn, with an underground relief pipe sunk below Morrisons car park, under John Street, and out to the shore.
