Dunoon's Hospice has been shut for almost a year
28 JuneIt’s almost a year since Dunoon’s Cowal Hospice shut its doors.
The Hospice, a vital part of the community, closed on July 23 2010.
It means that cancer patients face a ferry journey to receive care.
At the time NHS Highland cited staff shortages as the reason for the closure.
But the community has not taken the closure lying down. It is has fought for the Hospice to be reopened- with a long running campaign including petitions signed by thousands and town protests.
The campaign has been led by Sybil Baldwin, whose husband sadly died in the Hospice.
Sybil now hopes to organise an event to mark July 23.
She said: “It will be a year to the day our hospice doors closed. The day won’t go by unnoticed. Certainly a silent vigil then releasing balloons to end with.”
You can read more about Sybil’s campaign at her blog.
